Yesterday evening my wife and I were on our way to watch a show in Cape Town.
I was driving. On the way through Fish Hoek, a school girl crossed the road at a pedestrian crossing. The light was green for cars to go, but the car going in the opposite direction to us stopped for the girl. (A real Cape Town thing; we break rules when we have the opportunity to show good will). Absentmindedly the girl crossed the road. I am not sure if she thought the light was in her favour. I was slowing down to avoid colliding with the daydreamer.
But my wife, distracted from my driving only because she was on the phone, shouted at me to keep on driving. Why she did it I don’t know. But, “who’s driving?”, I asked. “Can you leave the driving to me?” I continued in my head. My wife was still on the phone and I could not lash out at her. Five or ten minutes later I was still fuming. But she has forgotten about the incident.
Who is the asshole?
My backseat driving wife, the not grounded girl or impatient me?
By the way: You may be thinking that I am writing these blog stories to show you how clever I am; with life wisdom to teach you lessons. Wrong. I am writing up ideas and lessons I am learning. If you can learn from it too then that’s a bonus.
The other day I wrote about “It takes two to tango“. It seems I have forgotten about my own lessons.
I believe that everyone is conspiring to teach me a lesson. Everyone I encounter.
I prefer harmony compared to these lessons dished out by absentminded people who teach me patience.
May I learn to be patient.
